What is Black Americas American Dream?

White picket fences, fifty-thousand dollars a year, two dogs, and a pension. That is the average American dream. When you ask African Americans what are their dreams, what do they say? What do African Americans dream about? What makes black people wake up every day? What were the slaves dreaming about? Has anyone ever asked? To help answer the question, Black people have dreams too. Black people dream about living in a better place, black people dream about earning more money, black people dream about success but the real question is are Black people dreaming their own dreams or are they borrowing the dreams of others? Decisions makers, elected officials, community leaders and others in leadership seldem ask the Black community what are their dreams. If we could take a second to ask a black person, what are your dreams, would they repeat what they seen or heard on tv, would it be their own dream or would it be dream that was sold to them by society? What is Black America’s American Dream? Is it a house with white picket fences, fifty thousand dollars a year, two dogs and pension? Is that our dream or did we borrow that dream from others?
